Open Banking
The regulated system that lets you instruct your bank to share your data with services you choose — live in NZ since 1 December 2025.
Open banking lets you tell your bank to share your account data — balances, transactions — with an accredited service, through secure standard APIs, without ever handing over your password. In New Zealand it runs under the Customer and Product Data Act 2025 and went live for the major banks on 1 December 2025, with Kiwibank following during 2026.
Consent is specific and revocable: you approve a named provider for a purpose, through your own bank, and can cancel any time. Only accredited requestors can ask. Akahu is the best-known NZ intermediary in this system.
Owdyn’s automatic bank sync (in testing, coming to Plus and Wise) is built on this system via Akahu — CSV import means you never have to use it.
