Safe to Spend

Your bank balance with every upcoming bill, BNPL instalment, allocated budget and savings contribution already subtracted — what is genuinely yours until next payday.

Safe to Spend is the number your bank balance pretends to be. Your balance shows everything sitting in the account — including the rent leaving on Friday, the power bill on Monday and Wednesday’s Afterpay instalment. Safe to Spend subtracts all of that first, plus the amounts you’ve promised to budgets and savings goals, and shows what is actually free to spend before your next pay.

The idea matters most in New Zealand’s weekly and fortnightly pay cycles, where bills land on their own schedule regardless of payday. A balance can look healthy on Tuesday and be entirely spoken for by Sunday.

Safe to Spend is Owdyn’s headline number — updated daily from your imported transactions, with a tap-through breakdown of everything subtracted.
