How to split a transaction across multiple categories

After this guide, you'll be able to: Split one payment into two or more categories for accurate budget tracking.

Published 21 April 2026

  1. 1

Open the transaction you want to split

Find the transaction in your list and tap it to open the detail view. Tap "Split transaction".

  2. 2

    Add split parts

By default, two parts appear. Change the category and amount for each part. You can add more parts with "+ Add part". The amounts must add up to the original transaction total — Owdyn shows you the remaining amount as you go.

The last part auto-fills to the remaining amount so you don't have to calculate it manually.

  3. 3

    Save the split

Tap Save. The original transaction is replaced by the split parts in your transaction list. Each part is attributed to its own category in your budget.

What happens next

To undo a split, open the transaction and choose "Remove split". The transaction returns to a single entry, and you'll need to reassign the category.
