KiwiSaver First-Home Withdrawal
The rule that lets eligible first-home buyers withdraw almost all of their KiwiSaver balance to put toward a deposit.
If you have been in KiwiSaver for at least three years and are buying your first home to live in, you can usually withdraw your entire balance except $1,000. That includes your contributions, employer contributions, government contributions and investment returns.
The application runs through your KiwiSaver provider and takes time — typically a couple of weeks — so it needs to be organised well before settlement day. Previous home owners can sometimes qualify too, if Kāinga Ora determines they are in the same financial position as a first-home buyer.
