Credit Score
A number summarising your borrowing history that lenders use to price risk — in NZ, built by Centrix, Equifax and illion.
Your credit score condenses your credit history — payments made on time, defaults, credit applications, utilisation — into a number lenders read before saying yes. New Zealand has three main bureaus (Centrix, Equifax, illion), and you can request your report from each free.
NZ also has positive credit reporting: paying bills and repayments on time actively builds your score, rather than a good score merely meaning "no black marks". Frequent credit applications in a short window drag it down.
